Garlic Smashed Red Potatoes

Was trying to come up with an accompaniment to my neighbor Jay’s smoked meat he volunteered to bring us from dinner (so good), and I had a bunch of red potatoes that needed using so I sort of followed a recipe on made a few variations of my own.  They turned out good.  Derek and I really liked them.  But, if you don’t care for garlic, these are not for you.

  • 8 red potatoes, cubed leave skins on
  • 2 tsp crushed garlic
  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1/4 C half and half cream
  • 1/4 tsp steak seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Salt to taste

  1. Place red potatoes in pot, and fill with enough water to cover.  Add 1 tsp of the crushed garlic to the water for flavor.  Bring to boil, and cook for about 10 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork.
  2. Drain the potatoes, and add the butter.  Mash until the butter is melted.  Mix in the half-and-half, steak seasoning, garlic powder, and remaining garlic.  Mix potatoes with an electric mixer until smooth.
