Lemon Tartar Sauce

When Derek and I were newly married and our budget was tight I remember frequently stopping by Derek’s parents place around the dinner hour in hopes that they might feed us as well as themselves.  I think Diane began to anticipate such drop bys and usually always seemed to have enough to share with us on any given evening when we might just stop by. One such evening we scored and the Marshall parents were eating salmon and Diane had made this lemon sauce to go with it.  It’s tartar saucesque, but I had never had such a sauce with such a nice tart lemony taste to it and we both quite enjoyed it that night.  Derek to this day loves this sauce on the side of any fish I cook more than most anything else.


  • 1 C mayonnaise
  • 1/4 C fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp lemon peel, grated
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp onion salt

*Combine all ingredients and chill until ready to serve.  Great with salmon, crab cakes, or other fish.
